Symposium: Urban pollution and the people who live there
Freedom Center, 50 E Freedom Way
Tuesday, November 15
Air pollution is a well-recognized issue in urban environments with contributions from industrial zones, power generation, and traffic, as well as residential buildings. Cincinnati and Southwest Ohio have their fair share of air pollution with major contributors such as some of the most trafficked interstates. In addition, the hills and valleys prevent pollution from rapidly dispersing. The impacts on health, individuals, and communities are wide spread and noticeable, with large disparities between neighborhoods with socioeconomic and racial lines. Urban areas that were subject to redlining reaching back as far as the 1930’s, often have higher levels of air pollution today.
The symposium will feature speakers from local research, medical, government, and community organizations. Presentations will cover topics such as air pollution monitoring, associated health outcomes, and community involvement.
Registration required by November 3rd November 8th. The first 30 students who register, pre-pay, and attend the event will see a reimbursement of the fee.
