Stacey Lowery Bretz, Miami University
Contribution to the science/profession: Advancing the standards of chemistry education research (CER) to develop assessments, diagnose chemistry misconceptions, and stimulate metacognition and reflection in both the teaching and learning of chemistry.
Contribution to the ACS community: Advocating on behalf of Chemistry Education Research (CER) through the committees, programming of the Division of Chemical Education, and serving the ACS Examinations Institute.
Bill Oliver, NKU (Retired)
Contribution to the science/profession: Served on the faculty of Northern Kentucky University for 35 years, retiring in 2007. Chaired the Department of Chemistry for 16 years.
Contribution to the ACS community: In addition to being elected to all the major offices of the Cincinnati section, served 10 years as Councilor and chaired three national committees: Meetings & Expositions, Science, and Public Relations & Communications.
Joel Shulman, U. Cincinnati (Retired P&G)
Contribution to the science/profession: Management of broad areas of industrial research and product development; educational initiatives in the preparation of undergraduate and graduate students for careers in chemistry.
Contribution to the ACS community: Dedicated committee service to further undergraduate and graduate education, as well as career development, including the design and implementation of the Preparing for Life After Graduate School (PfLAGS) workshop.
Subhas Sikdar, US Environmental Protection Agency
Contribution to the science/profession: First to start a quantitative assessment of environmental impacts and sustainability of process systems, which stimulated efforts by others in further developing the field of treating sustainability quantitatively.
Contribution to the ACS community: Contributed three years to the Green Chemistry Institute as a member of the Governing Board, participating in strategic planning and program evaluation, and providing technical advice.
